The Dan Thorpe Acoustic Academy
Exclusive “Deep Dive” Monthly Bonus for those who joined before 1st December 2020.
For this month’s lesson, we are learning and getting creative with 8 chord progressions, many of which are sweet, soulful and creative ways of playing common progressions. To help you compare and contrast them, I play each one with the same fingerpicking and strumming pattern. To learn the pieces, download the TAB on the link below the video.

Technically, when we play the strummed parts, we are strumming with a “half-time feel” compared to the picked sections but I don’t want to get heavy on theory or anything deep here. This lesson is about inspiration, having fun and opening doors up for you so you can see what is possible with just one or two strumming and fingerpicking patterns!
Each progression is given a little nickname with a bit of an idea of what it is based upon shown in brackets in the video.
- The strum pattern is the Modern strum pattern (learn HERE)
- The fingerpicking pattern is the Ultra-Flexible pattern taken from my book, Fingerstyle 101 (you don’t need the book to learn this pattern though – you can learn it from the tab above).
