Mastering the Major Scale
Part 1 – Fundamentals of Learning a Scale
Scales are important for guitarists and have many benefits. The problem can be that some people learn too many scales and struggle to play and use them. This often leads to bad habits. In this lesson, I break down one of the most important scales ever. Let’s learn the notes in the scale in a methodical way, so you can play it with confidence and develop your technique at the same time.
Part 2 – A Powerful Tip If You Struggle to Stretch
When playing scales, riffs, and melodies, it’s a good idea to try to leave your fingers on the fretboard. Doing so helps to prevent awkward pauses in the music. Some people physically cannot do this because their fingers do not stretch enough. If that’s the case for you, this tip should help.
Part 3 – Bonus: Unlocking the Fretboard
If you want to learn the notes on the fretboard and move scales around to change keys, you can. In this bonus video, we go deeper into more complicated territory where I cover how to do this. Go slowly with this lesson, enjoy, apply, and rewatch it if you need to. Of course, ask ANY questions below in the comments if there’s anything you’re unsure about.
Enjoy learning this scale. It’s a super important one that you can and will use time and again for various things. Don’t let anyone teach you lots of unnecessary scales – instead, learn how to play just one or two scales and go deep on them like we have here. Definitely worth it to keep coming back to this lesson!
