Classic Riffs
Here are some tips on making the most out of this section.
- Why no TAB? For the riffs, the tab is intentionally NOT shown.Too many guitarists are given every note and never encouraged to work anything out for themselves. If you can work out just one small thing or a few notes here and there, your playing will improve for it!
- Write down the TAB – Below there are some downloads for you to get, Print them off and write down the TAB or notation for each song. Doing this will help you remember them better!
- Work out a song purely by ear – I urge you to NOT look but instead listen to me playing one of these riffs and try to work it out purely by ear. This will build your aural skills and confidence is very practical ear training. Many pros do this and you can do it too!) It’s easier working out the riffs from my videos as you don’t get the distractions of all the other instruments when listening to a full band. If you get stuck, follow my instructions on how to play the riff and try working out another by ‘ear’ later..

For the other style, have been scribbling a kind of wobbly, inconsistent 5-lines-and-clef concept (if really lucky, in the actual notebook I supposedly keep for the guitar), making Beethoven’s music scores look like a model of neat legibility. Not that I have ever in any other way compared myself to Beethoven…! Although some days my hair… Read more »
Glad it was helpful having these. Yeah, don’t worry about it being perfect when writing and notating. My notebooks are full of all sorts of craziness. Haha, I like the hair comment too – sure you look great with the Beethoven style. 🙂
Never knew these blank sheets were offered on this site. Trying to learn one of the riffs. Went and got some blank tab sheets I had downloaded elsewhere. I have always found that writing things down helps me remember and learn them better. Happy to know that these are available!
Yeah, one of the things I should mention more for users. I will add more links to these in the DTAA members. Thanks for that. Glad you found them helpful. 🙂
Before I went down the page and found this, I copied a blank tab sheet and worked out “Brown Eyed Girl”. lol
Perfect – that’s what I like to hear. Well done working it out. 🙂
