The 3-Step Method – How to Simplify Every Song
The “3-Step Method” is how I break down each fingerstyle arrangement I teach and learn. The 3 steps are the (1) Melody, (2) Bass, and (3) Extras. This video can help you get the most out of this course.
The 3-Step Method
Summary of the “3-Step Method”
- Step 1 – On the TAB, find and highlight the melody. Then learn it on the guitar, slowly and methodically.
- Step 2 – Add in the bass notes at the beginning of each bar. Note: if your bass notes keep getting cut short, the chances are you may be removing a finger or reducing pressure on this bass note.
- Step 3 – Best to attempt when steps 1 and 2 are solid. This is where the extras, such as the runs, riffs, fills, ghost notes, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and more, are introduced. You can have lots of fun here and throw in your own ideas too!
